Volunteer in Africa

Worried about bureaucratic red tape and charities that use much of their donations to pay themselves?

At UCS we undertake mission work on our own, putting hammers, nails, and faith to work right on the ground where we can change people’s lives - in person.

If you are one of the special few able to travel with us to build, teach, and evangelize, there is no better “do it yourself and do it right” program of international faith-based aid than Uganda Christian Solutions.

Mission Work

UCS undertook its first mission trip to Uganda in January 2009.

During this trip our volunteers began the construction of Mt. Olives Church.  All of the tools used in building the new church were left behind after the mission.  As a resource rich society, we don’t think of how difficult it can be for a rural village in a less developed nation to acquire even a hammer and nails!

Over the months since, a lot of finishing touches have been added, including the addition of a cement floor and electricity.

At last, our Uganda congregation has been able to function fully, already having celebrated a wedding, a baptism and a funeral.  In addition, the attendance at Sunday service is growing.  Attendance has expanded so much, in fact, that Mt. Olives Church is in need of more chairs to accommodate everyone.

Chairs are Needed

Chairs Needed for Mt. Olives ChurchYou don’t have to volunteer in Africa to make a difference.  For example, what we take for granted can change the life of a community in Uganda.  Simply put, we need chairs for Sunday service at Mt. Olives Church.

UCS is interested in purchasing 300 chairs at $10.00 a piece.

Also, we look forward to finishing the doors and windows for the Mt. Olives Church.  If you would like to contribute to any of these projects, please visit our Donations and Get Involved pages to make the personal difference that will not happen without your personal involvement.

Teaching Carpentry

UCS is about more than offering charity - it is also about teaching people to help themselves.

We’ve named our carpentry program “Henry’s Hands,” named in honor of one special man who was a part of the construction of the Mt. Olives Church in January 2009.  Shortly after the project was completed Henry lost his life in a tragic accident.  Henry's HandsUCS wants to honor Henry and his hard work by naming the vocational school after him.

"Henry's Hands" Vocational School was constructed in March 2011.  We are in the process of hiring a teacher so that classes can commence in the Spring of 2012.

If you would like to contribute to the success of our vocation school, please visit our Donations and Get Involved pages.

Remember, good works and good news require participation.  By offering even the most humble assistance, you have the power to help change lives forever.  Without your help the world suffers a little more each day.

Sewing Projects

Uganda Christian SolutionsAnother significant project sponsored by UCS is our Sewing Program.  UCS purchased 20 treadle (non electric) sewing machines and sponsored six days of sewing training for 36 women in 2009.  In March of 2011 the program was repeated for 40 women.  20 additional sewing machines were donated.

At Uganda Christian solutions, we also started a sewing school in three different locations at Yei Sudan, Busia, and Mukono Uganda.

Currently, all of the sewing machines have been delivered and settled into their new homes.  The machines are being used by women to either help improve the economic situation for their own family or to help make clothes for orphans.
